China is moving ahead rapidly in the field of advanced technology. The country has been working on 6G technology for several years, aiming to lead the next generation of ultra-fast internet. According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the first phase of its 6G trials has now been completed.
China conducted 6G trials continuously for four years, and during the first phase, over 300 new technological discoveries were made. Although the details of these discoveries were not revealed, officials confirmed that the key directions for 6G development have been finalized.
Experts say 6G will become the world’s most important digital network in the next decade. It will combine communication, sensing, and computing technologies, making it far more advanced than current 5G networks.
Three-Phase 6G Trial Plan in China
According to Global Times, China’s 6G trials are divided into three stages:
Key Technology Trial (Completed): Focused on identifying the main direction of 6G development.
Technical Solution Trial (Next Stage): In this phase, China will develop 6G prototypes.
System Networking Trials (Final Stage): Pre-commercial 6G devices will be created and tested.
Earlier, in July 2025, China Mobile launched the world’s first small-scale 6G network across 10 research sites. The company demonstrated that 6G speeds could reach 280 Gbps, which is 14 times faster than the highest 5G bandwidth. At this speed, a 50GB file can downloaded in less than two seconds, making many wired internet connections look slow.
6G as Part of China’s National Development Plan
China has included 6G in its five-year national development plan. The government aims to use 6G technology to boost growth across sectors. Other advanced technologies in the plan include:
- Quantum technology
- Hydrogen and nuclear fusion power
- Brain–computer interface
- Embodied AI
- Next-generation communication systems
Where Does India Stand in the 6G Race?
India is also moving quickly towards 6G development. In 2022, the Indian government launched the Bharat 6G Vision, aiming to roll out 6G services by 2030.
While official trials have not started yet, preparations are in full swing. At the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, experts stated that India is close to beginning 6G trials. The testing phase is expected between 2026 and 2028.
When to Expect 6G Speed in India?
Reports suggest that India’s 6G network could offer speeds up to 1000 Gbps, nearly eliminating latency. This advancement would support futuristic technologies like:
- Holographic calling
- Virtual reality meetings
- Smart city solutions
- Remote robotic surgeries
India is promoting 6G research through initiatives such as:
- India 6G Alliance
- Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF)
These programs aim to strengthen India’s position in the global telecom ecosystem.
