New Delhi: iPhone Fold: Popular smartphone makers including Samsung, Huawei, Oppo have already debuted in the foldable smartphone segment and now a new report claims that Apple may launch its first foldable iPad in 2025 instead of the iPhone.
iPhone Fold Expected Features
According to AppleInsider, the “iPhone Fold” will likely feature a USB-C port and MagSafe support. It is also expected to at least use Touch ID, although there is a possibility that Apple could opt for Face ID as well.
Apple is also reportedly working with LG to create an ultra-thin cover glass that could be used on the company’s foldable products. In addition, Apple will continue to invest in its own chip design. Currently, Apple designs its own chips for the iPhone and iPad. However, it relies on chipmaker Qualcomm for the modems that enable these devices to support 5G connections.
iPhone Fold Launch
Ross Young, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst claimed that Apple’s foldable iPhone may not be released until 2025. Apple is currently in talks with suppliers about a 20-inch foldable display. The company plans to work on foldable MacBooks. Expected to be used in folded and fully open form, these MacBook models are likely to launch in 2026 or 2027.
According to an old report, it is suggested that it could measure 8 inches and come with a WQD+ flexible OLED display with Samsung Display providing the main screen components. The DDI display controller will be from Samsung Foundry.
It further suggests that the Cupertino tech major could use a silver nanowire touch solution for the iPhone’s foldable screen to stay ahead of Samsung’s Y-Octa display and prove useful for future foldable devices that may have more folds, “rolling, medium to large display and durability.” Nanowire technology is currently used for the HomePod.
Past rumors have also suggested that the phone could come in funky color variants, following the designs of the iPhone XR, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. This will most likely appeal to a younger audience. There is a chance that the device will be reasonably priced, even if the odds are not favorable.
