With the iPhone 16 series now available in India, attention is already shifting to next year’s iPhone 17. Early leaks suggest a major upgrade: the standard iPhone 17 models might feature a 120Hz display, which was previously only available on Pro models. This upgrade, called ProMotion technology, will make scrolling and video playback smoother.
Improvement for Standard iPhones
Currently, the standard iPhone models have a 60Hz refresh rate. The new 120Hz ProMotion display will offer a faster, smoother experience. It could also help save battery by lowering the refresh rate when not in use, similar to what we see on the Pro models today.

Waiting for the Big Upgrade
Some users might delay buying the iPhone 16 and wait for the iPhone 17 because of this display improvement. It was originally expected for the iPhone 16, but now seems set for the new model, which is expected to launch in 2025.
New iPhone 17 Air Model
Next year, Apple is also rumored to introduce a new model called the “iPhone 17 Air.” It’s said to be slimmer and feature the 120Hz display, possibly replacing the Plus models. If true, the iPhone 16 Plus could be the last Plus model.
