What started with a couple of Reddit posts has now turned into a full-on discussion topic across the internet, as an increasing number of iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max users are reporting strange discoloration of the raised camera platform on the back of the phone.
A few posts online also reveal that Cosmic Orange is not the only colour showing signs of fade. The Deep Blue iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have also been reported to exhibit signs of colour fading.
One user noted that the colour degradation started at the camera island and has since spread across the phone’s body, further suggested that the issue may be caused by UV light exposure. Most reports indicate that the colours began fading after the phone was either left outside or used outdoors for prolonged periods.

Some users have joked that if you missed the Rose Gold colour, using your Cosmic Orange iPhone in the sun for a while might give you a similar shade. A report from GSMArena suggests that this issue is primarily affecting early adopters, while current buyers have not reported experiencing the same problem.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro
With the new iPhone 17 Pro Apple has shifted to titanium for aluminum as the primary material in the iPhone, pairing it with a new vapor chamber cooling system to improve heat dissipation. This should help keep the powerful Apple 19 Pro chipset running cool and smooth, ensuring the new Liquid Glass interface and iOS 26 animations perform effortlessly.
The front-facing camera is now labeled at 18MP and features a wide-angle lens that can take landscape selfies even when held vertically — a surprisingly practical touch. On the back, the telephoto lens has been upgraded to a 48MP sensor with 4x zoom, replacing last year’s 12MP, 5x setup.
The iPhone 17 Pro also sees a major battery capacity boost, the most significant in this year’s lineup – especially in regions using eSIM, where the absence of a physical SIM tray allows for a larger battery. A new charging standard is also introduced. Still, some things remain unchanged: the familiar pill-shaped camera cutout on the front, and the continued absence of a fingerprint scanner. the discolourations issue has been reported by GSM , no similar issue has yet came forward in India.
