iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max and Air: We are less than a week away from Apple’s much-hyped “Awe Dropping” event, scheduled to take place at Apple Park, Cupertino, on September 9. All eyes will be on the much-anticipated iPhone 17 series, expected to be announced during the event. India, one of Apple’s key markets, will be among the first to get the new lineup. The new series comprises the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple is also likely to unveil the iPhone 17 Air, touted as the thinnest and most portable iPhone ever, which may replace the iPhone 16 Plus. Apart from phones, Apple is also expected to unveil the updated Apple Watch, AirPods, and some artificial intelligence (AI) features.
While pricing will likely capture most attention, the iPhone 17 series is also expected to introduce several advancements in design, performance, and manufacturing. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature significant upgrades in both camera and speed, while the iPhone 17 Air is designed to impress with its slim and lightweight profile.
iPhone 17, Pro, Pro Max and Air: Expected Specifications
The iPhone 17 series is expected to see its most striking changes in exterior design, particularly for the Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumoured to replace the titanium build with a fresh aluminium-and-glass construction. Leaks also point to a large rectangular camera bar on the back, replacing the traditional square bump. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to be just 5.5 mm thick, making it the slimmest iPhone yet. The standard iPhone 17, however, is expected to look almost identical to the iPhone 16.
All iPhone 17 models are expected to bring major performance improvements. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are expected to use Apple’s latest A19 chip, while the Pro variants could be equipped with the higher-end A19 Pro. Both Pro models are said to include 12GB of RAM, allowing smoother multitasking and potentially more advanced Apple Intelligence features. Rumours suggest that Siri may integrate Gemini in the future, which means the iPhone will require more RAM than ever. All models are expected to launch with iOS 26.
The cameras are tipped for some of the biggest upgrades in the iPhone 17 lineup. All four models are expected to include a 24MP front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of the current 12MP sensor. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could debut a triple 48MP setup, complete with a new periscope telephoto lens offering up to 8x optical zoom. If true, this would make it the first iPhone to feature three 48MP sensors – covering the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses.

While Apple has not officially revealed pricing details, rumours and leaks suggest that the regular iPhone 17 could start at Rs 79,900 in India, while the Pro Max may go up to Rs 1,64,900.
The iPhone 17 Air is tipped to be priced at $899, while the Pro Max could reach $2,300 in the United States.
According to leaks, the iPhone 17 Air could cost £849 in the United Kingdom, €1,019 in Europe, AU$1,599 in Australia, and ¥129,800 in Japan.
