Dedicated Camera Shutter Button: The iPhone 16 is expected to reintroduce a dedicated camera shutter button, which has been absent in recent models. This physical button, likely powered by the haptic engine, is rumored to enhance the camera experience. A soft tap could focus on a subject, followed by a secondary tap to capture the image. This feature contradicts earlier speculations that Apple would remove all physical buttons.
Vertical Camera Array and 3D Recording: A notable design change is the camera layout. Unlike the diagonal dual-camera arrangement seen in the iPhone 15 and introduced with the iPhone 13, the iPhone 16 is expected to feature a vertically stacked camera system. This new configuration is speculated to support 3D video recording, a feature exclusive to the ‘Pro’ models. Additionally, the flash unit will be repositioned outside the camera cluster, reminiscent of the iPhone X design.
Action Button Replaces Mute Switch: The iPhone 16 is also expected to include the action button, first introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro models. This customizable button will replace the traditional mute switch, allowing users more control over specific functions.
Familiar Screen Size, Updated Internals: The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to retain the screen sizes of their predecessors, offering 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch 60Hz OLED displays, respectively. Internally, these models might be equipped with a toned-down version of the A17 Pro chip, potentially paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of base storage.
