New Delhi: Apple recently launched the iPhone 14 series, and now a new report claims that the company’s upcoming iPhone 15 models will feature Sony’s latest “state-of-the-art” image sensors.

According to a Nikkei Asia report, Sony Semiconductor Solutions has developed a new image sensor and has begun shipping to Apple and other smartphone manufacturers. The inclusion of a new image sensor in the upcoming iPhones will be crucial for Sony to cement its competitive edge in high-resolution photography technology.

“Sony’s new image sensor roughly doubles the saturation signal level in each pixel compared to conventional sensors. In other words, the sensors can capture more light and reduce overexposure or underexposure at certain settings, allowing the smartphone camera to clearly photograph a person’s face even when the subject is against strong backlight,” the report said.

The iPhone 15 is likely to feature a titanium chassis with curved rear edges, replacing the current boxy design. The back edges of the iPhone 15 are expected to be rounded to create a new bezel, similar to the bottom edges on the cases of the tech giant’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

It was previously reported that the iPhone 15 series will include four models with greater functional differences than the iPhone 14, and all models will have a USB-C charging port.

The tech giant would make four models for its 2023 iPhone 15 lineup. While another report mentioned that the iPhone 15 Pro models are likely to include a Thunderbolt port for high-speed data transfer.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Apple’s plan to use its own modems for the iPhone may not bear fruit next year. The iPhone manufacturer would therefore rely on the use of Qualcomm’s 5G modems on the iPhone 15 Ultra.

That said, nothing has changed in terms of how customers would connect to 5G on their future iPhone models. Apple’s own 5G model is highly anticipated, but I see no reason why Qualcomm’s modem should mean any less to customers.
