Instagram has introduced a new Map feature in India, aimed at enhancing user connectivity and offering a more engaging way to discover content from popular creators. With this latest update, you can now share your live location with selected friends and discover fun, trending posts from across India and around the globe all through the map.
How to Use It
Step 1: Make sure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version.
Step 2: Open your profile and tap the icon at the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Tap on the new Map button that appears.
Step 4: Select which friends you’d like to share your current location with—don’t worry, you can switch it off anytime for privacy.
Step 5: Browse the map to see stories, reels, and posts your friends and favorite creators have shared from different places.
Step 6: You can even tag a location in your own posts, stories, or reels and preview how it will look before sharing.
What’s Improved
Instagram says it has refined the map experience to make it more user-friendly. Earlier, whenever someone tagged a location, their post automatically appeared on the map with their profile picture. Now, that’s changed-profile photos won’t show up on tagged posts, helping avoid confusion. You’ll also get a gentle reminder when tagging a place in your story, reel, or post, letting you know that it will appear on the map along with a preview of how it looks.
Why India Got It First
India is one of the first countries to get this Map feature, thanks to its community of over 300 million active Instagram users. Instagram believes this update will make it easier for creators, influencers, and local businesses to connect with their audiences and share their world more engagingly.
