IIT student’s Innovation: robot designed to prevent 26/11-like attacks, capable of tracking terrorists

Om Anand Jha, a first-year B.Tech student, developed a mobile robot with two-way mobility. Jha has ensured that the robot can navigate any location without making any noise and locate hidden terrorists.

The terrorist attack on Mumbai on November 26, 2008, 17 years ago, in which close to 166 people were killed, deeply troubled Om Anand Jha, a resident of Bihar. So deeply, in fact, that he took a resolution: when he became an engineer, he would create an apparatus that would make it easier for the army and the police to locate terrorists.

After years of education and gaining expertise in the field, Om Anand Jha, a first-year B.Tech student, developed a mobile robot with two-way mobility. Jha has ensured that the robot can navigate any location without making any noise and locate hidden terrorists. The cameras on the outside allow the army and police to surveil the surroundings with ease.

Here’s How the Robot Will Work

Om Anand Jha, a student at Delhi IIT, said that during the 26/11 attack in Mumbai, it took a lot of time for the army to find and pinpoint the locations of the terrorists. While surveilling the premises, the police struggled with operating beyond confined areas. Hence, Anand thought it would be a good idea to design a new robot that could be used to surveil the surroundings without the risk of attack or damage.

The robot has an armored body and a camera installed at the front. The entire robot can be controlled via a laptop and mobile. With this kind of apparatus, the police will be able to easily keep an eye on terrorists hiding in desolate locations that are tricky for soldiers to reach. Since the robot can operate from both sides, it will easily be able to tackle movement, even if it falls or sustains damage.

The Price of the Robot

Om Anand Jha said that it took him one and a half months to build the robot. Talking about the cost, he mentioned that it hasn’t been very high. His vivid memory of the attack and his resolution to aid the army in his own way led to the development of the new robot. He said he is ready to give the robot to the Indian Army for only around Rs 6,000. Such robots, capable of crawling and operating in tight spaces, can greatly enhance the ability of the Indian Army to surveil areas that are difficult to access.
