Don’t want others to know that you’ve read their message on WhatsApp? It’s no secret that WhatsApp’s Blue Ticks feature serves as a confirmation that your message has been read by the recipient. However, some users prefer to keep their privacy intact by disabling this feature, preventing others from knowing when their messages have been read. Consequently, now you won’t have to forcefully respond to people and also prevent yourself from a lot of awkward situations.
Here’s how to manage read receipts on both Android and iOS devices:
For Android:
1. Open WhatsApp from your app drawer or home screen.
2. Tap on the More option (located as three vertical dots on the top-right corner).
3. Select “Settings.”
4. Navigate to “Accounts.”
5. Tap on “Privacy.”
6. Turn off the toggle switch next to “Read Receipts.”
For iOS:
1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
2. Tap on “Settings” in the navigation bar at the bottom.
3. Select “Account,” then “Privacy.”
4. Disable the toggle switch next to “Read Receipts.”
Once you’ve turned off read receipts, the recipient will still receive your message, and they might view it in their notifications. However, the message will not show as “read.” In group chats, double gray checkmarks indicate that everyone in the conversation has received the message.
Please note that disabling Blue Ticks will not affect read receipts for group chats or play receipts for voice messages. Unfortunately, there is no way to turn off these settings.
By managing read receipts, you can balance your desire for privacy while still using WhatsApp for effective communication.
