Spotify vs YouTube Music: Increasing demand for music streaming services has brought in myriad options for us to decide what to pick. YouTube Music and Spotify are great choices for streaming music.

Each offers a wide array of music and many appealing features that makes them so popular amongst the youth. But choosing anyone is certainly an uphill task with both platforms having their own pros and cons.

In India, pricing is more or less the same for each. Price plans may be the same but the interface, characteristics and music library are different for each.

YouTube Music’s ad-supported plan is free, while their premium plan costs Rs 99 per month. The premium plan includes ad-free music streaming, background play, and offline playback. For Rs 149 per month, YouTube Music’s family plan can be shared with up to six family members.

Spotify offers a free ad-supported plan, but it’s much more limited than YouTube Music’s free plan. Spotify’s premium plan comes for  Rs 119 per month and includes ad-free streaming, offline playback, and high-quality audio. For Rs 179 per month, Spotify’s family plan can be shared with up to six family members.

Both YouTube Music and Spotify have compact and user-friendly interfaces in the country. YouTube Music’s interface is inclined towards visuals with music videos and live performances being displayed on the app’s homepage. Spotify, on the contrary, is more audio-based, with playlists and new releases being the prime focus.

One of the biggest advantages of YouTube Music is its consonance with YouTube. Users can easily switch between watching music videos and listening to music on the app.

Additionally, YouTube Music’s personalized playlists, such as ”Your Mixtape,” “Discover Mix,” and “New Release Mix,” use artificial intelligence to prepare playlists based on the user’s music taste.

Spotify is known for its social features, including the ability to share songs and playlists, and even connect with friends who share similar music tastes.

Spotify also offers personalised playlists such as “Discover Weekly” and “Release Radar,” which are updated every week with new songs based on the user’s listening habits.

Both YouTube Music and Spotify offer a plethora of songs in India. However, there are some differences in their music libraries. YouTube Music has a vast library of music videos, live performances, and covers, while Spotify focuses more on chartbusters and popular music.

For a podcast enthusiast, YouTube might not be the best choice but Spotify. Whereas, if you are an avid video watcher, especially music videos and live renditions, YouTube Music is the go-to!

In a nutshell, it all is based on one’s choice.
