Elon Musk has officially launched Grokipedia, a new AI-powered encyclopedia developed by his artificial intelligence company, X AI. The platform has been positioned as a rival to Wikipedia, the world’s most widely used reference website. Grokipedia aims to offer faster, more factual, and less politically biased information, according to the Tesla CEO.
The platform, which went live on Tuesday, is powered by X AI’s conversational model, Grok, already integrated into Musk’s social media platform X. According to a Business Insider report, Grokipedia features more than 800,000 entries at launch.

Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.
Elon Musk has hinted that the AI engine will continuously expand, adding that this is only version 0.1 of Grokipedia. He further stated on X that Version 1.0 will be 10x better, but even at 0.1, “it’s better than Wikipedia, in my opinion.”
Open Source Vs AI-Based Algorithm
Wikipedia functions on crowd-sourced knowledge, while Grok is built on automation. Wikipedia’s articles are written and maintained by a global volunteer community operating under clear editorial policies and open discussion forums. Grokipedia, in contrast, uses AI to generate and edit most of its content, with limited visible human intervention.
Musk argues that this approach will “cut through the bias and bureaucracy” by allowing AI to focus purely on verifiable facts. He claims that Wikipedia, maintained by humans, is susceptible to inherent biases, which may influence its articles. Musk has also accused Wikipedia of harboring “ideological narratives”, asserting that Grokipedia will provide a more objective alternative.
However, a report from The Verge has noted that a number of Grokipedia articles appear to be heavily derived from Wikipedia content, sometimes reproducing entries almost verbatim.
Limitations
Wikipedia is operated by the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation and remains one of the most respected and transparent sources of knowledge on the internet. Its community-driven model enables millions of contributors to collaborate, discuss, and continuously refine information. While this system is generally reliable, it is sometimes susceptible to inaccuracies, editorial bias, or uneven coverage.
Grokipedia takes a completely different approach. It operates on a top-down AI-guided model, emphasizing efficiency and automated synthesis over community participation. Its future success will depend on how effectively X AI balances accuracy, transparency, and ethical standards as the platform develops further.
Grokipedia is evolving by leaps and bounds, and perhaps one day, it could rival the collective expertise of human editors.
Already Facing Issues
