OpenAI is planning to roll out GPT-5 across ChatGPT and its API, with different levels of access. The access is based on subscription tiers. Altman revealed that free tier users of ChatGPT will get unlimited chat access to the new GPT-5 model once it arrives, available on a standard intelligence level, with some restrictions to prevent misuse. However, ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to use a more advanced version of GPT-5, while ChatGPT Pro subscribers will get access to an even higher level of intelligence.
Before GPT-5 is launched, OpenAI will first roll out GPT-4.5, also known internally as Orion. This will be the last of OpenAI’s models that doesn’t include chain-of-thought reasoning, meaning it won’t have the self-checking abilities that future models like GPT-5 will feature.

In addition to this, Altman also shared news of a third major technology that’s coming soon—the new o3 reasoning model. This will be a key part of GPT-5, helping to power everything that users need.
