Govt Issues ALERT For iPhone, iPad And Mac Users – What Should Apple Users Do?

An agency overseeing cybersecurity under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a high-severity alert against iOS, iPadOS, and macOS users. This has been the result of the new iPhone 16; a warning was issued stating that multiple vulnerabilities in Apple products allow attackers to gain access to sensitive information from the user.

The CERT-In said that the vulnerabilities would enable an attacker to gain access to sensitive information and also to “execute arbitrary code, bypass security measures, cause denial of service (DoS) attacks, bypass authentication, gain higher privileges, and carry out spoofing attacks on the targeted system.”

Vulnerability Affects Following Apple Products:

  • iOS versions before 18 and iPadOS versions before 18
  • iOS versions before 17.7 and iPadOS versions before 17.7
  • macOS Sonoma versions before 14.7
  • macOS Ventura versions before 13.7
  • macOS Sequoia versions before 15
  • tvOS versions before 18
  • watchOS versions before 11
  • Safari versions before 18
  • Xcode versions before 16
  • visionOS versions before 2

What Should Apple Users Do?

CERT-In said that Apple has already addressed these vulnerabilities through the latest software update. Cupertino-based company recommends all iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, Safari, Xcode, and visionOS users update to the latest version to remain safe.

It is significant that CERT-In had even issued a warning about the flaws in the Google Chrome browser at the beginning of this month. The agency has notified that users with versions before 128.0.6613.119/.120 for Windows and macOS as well as the versions prior to 128.0.6613.119 for Linux were affected because of those vulnerabilities.
