After the success of Google’s affordable offering, the Pixel 7a, the company recently launched its successor – the Google Pixel 8a, days ahead of the company’s software announcements scheduled to happen on May 14, 2024. The Google Pixel 8a has received a design overhaul and features the Tensor G3 SoC along with AI bits that were previously limited to the premium Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models. Google Pixel 8a: Features And Specifications
The refreshed design of the Google Pixel 8a comprises an aluminium frame, polycarbonate rear panels and a glass screen, looking similar to the newer Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Also, the smartphone retains the IP67 certification from the Pixel 7a. Measuring 152.1mm x 72.7mm x 8.9mm, the device weighs 188 grams.
The Pixel 8a sports a 6.1-inch Super Actua display and the company claims it is the first A-series device to get this screen. Furthermore, this OLED panel now offers a refresh rate of 120Hz against the 90Hz found on the previous model. Just like the Pixel 7a, Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protects the display of the new smartphone, while it offers 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The Pixel 8a’s SoC has received an upgrade and the smartphone now gets the latest Tensor G3 with the Titan M2 security coprocessor. The Tensor G2 missed out on several features on the A-series devices, but the Tensor G3 offers AI image editing (Magic Editor), Circle to search, Best Take, to Audio Magic Eraser.
Connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.3, a USB Type-C port, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, and GPS navigation systems support. The smartphone supports one physical SIM card and one virtual eSIM. Furthermore, the in-display fingerprint reader or face unlock secures the smartphone.
The Pixel 8a runs on Android 14 and seven years of software and security updates are promised. It also includes the quarterly Pixel Feature Drops, which adds new software features.

Battery And Camera
Powering the Google Pixel 8a is a 4,492mAh battery supporting 18W wired fast charging. In terms of optics, the new smartphone retains all from the Pixel 7a. On the back, it sports a 64-megapixel (f/1.89 aperture) main sensor and a 13-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) ultrawide camera. For selfies, there is a 13-megapixel snapper upfront.
Price And Colour Options
Globally, the Google Pixel 8a is offered in both 128GB and 256GB storage options with 8GB of RAM. Both the variants are arriving in India with the 128GB variant costing Rs 52,999 and the 256GB version getting a price tag of Rs 59,999. The smartphone will come in four colour options to choose from Porcelain, Obsidian, Bay, Aloe.
Availability And Offers
As for availability, you can pre-order the Google Pixel 8a on Flipkart and the sales will commence on May 14 at 6:30AM.
On select bank cards, Google also offers Rs 4,000 and 12-month no-cost EMI. Additionally, if you pre-order the handset, you can also buy the Pixel Buds A-series at just Rs 999.
