Google Chrome gets Gemini AI upgrade – what it means for you
Gemini AI in Chrome can now look at your open tabs, use your browsing history, and link with Google services like Workspace, Calendar, Maps, and YouTube. It helps you compare products across different tabs, bring back sites you visited earlier, and create quick summaries. For instance, if you close tabs while searching something, Gemini can reopen them later and give you a recap.
Gemini is already available on Android, and iOS users will get it soon. On mobile, it can now understand the full context of a page, allowing for richer AI assistance and “deeper questions”.
Gemini will soon be able to handle “tedious” or repetitive tasks like ordering groceries or rescheduling deliveries. According to Google, built-in safeguards will block any high-risk actions unless the user confirms them. Chrome is also adding “AI Mode” to the address bar, which can process longer and more detailed queries.
Users can now ask questions about the page they’re viewing or even across several websites and get AI-generated summaries. The new Enhanced Safe Browsing feature, powered by Google’s Gemini Nano model, helps spot phishing scams, fake virus pop-ups, and other harmful content. Chrome will also soon add a one-click option to reset passwords on supported
“Today represents the biggest upgrade to Chrome in its history,” said Google VP Mike Torres. “We’re using AI to help users get more from the web, while keeping browsing fast, simple and safe.”
