Apple has integrated several new accessibility features into iOS 18, currently in developer beta. Among these innovations, Vehicle Motion Cues is expected to resonate widely, particularly among passengers in vehicles. This feature aims to mitigate motion sickness while using iPhones or iPads by aligning on-screen visuals with real-time vehicle movements. It will be publicly available once Apple releases the stable iOS 18 update later this year.
What is the Vehicle Motion Cues feature?
Apple has highlighted that motion sickness often results from the disconnect between visual stimuli (static screen) and physical motion experienced in vehicles. Vehicle Motion Cues addresses this issue by displaying animated dots on the screen edges that correspond to the vehicle’s movements. This feature aims to minimize sensory conflict without disrupting the main content. Utilizing built-in sensors in iPhone and iPad devices, Vehicle Motion Cues automatically detects when a user is in motion and adjusts accordingly. Users can enable or disable this feature directly from the Control Center.

How to activate this feature
Currently available for iOS 18 users, Vehicle Motion Cues is accessed through Settings > Accessibility > Motion. Although there have been reports of issues with the feature in the latest beta version, users can activate it by customizing their Control Center:
1. Swipe diagonally from the top-right corner of the screen (or swipe up from the bottom on devices with a Home button) to open Control Center.
2. Press and hold any space to enter customization mode.
3. Tap “Add a Control” at the bottom.
4. Scroll up to “Vision Accessibility” controls and select Vehicle Motion Cues.
5. Exit customization mode by pressing and holding a space in Control Center.
6. Tap the Vehicle Motion Cues button and choose either “On” or “Only in Vehicle.”
Once activated, users will notice small motion cues—animated dots along the screen edges—that adjust according to the vehicle’s movements. Automatic activation ensures these cues appear whenever the device detects movement.
