Elon Musk’s AI project, xAI, has introduced Grok for X Premium Plus subscribers in India, extending its services to 46 other countries such as Pakistan, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore. This expansion follows last week’s announcement of Grok’s availability for X Premium+ subscribers in the United States.
Grok, currently in its beta phase, caters exclusively to X Premium+ subscribers, priced at ₹1,300 per month or ₹13,600 per year in India, aligning with rates in other regions offering Grok.
Setting itself apart from conventional chatbots, Grok prides itself on delivering clever responses and operates in two modes: fun and regular. Harnessing real-time data from X, Grok stands out by addressing queries that might have been overlooked by other leading AI chatbots.
Amid a trend of advertisers shifting away from the microblogging platform, Elon Musk emphasizes reducing the company’s dependence on advertising. Instead, the focus now pivots towards subscriptions, aiming to enhance their appeal. Musk envisions transforming X into a “super app,” providing an array of services to subscribers encompassing messaging, social networking, and peer-to-peer payments.
Having launched xAI in July as a response to what he perceives as Big Tech’s AI limitations, particularly in terms of excessive censorship and inadequate safety measures, Musk is determined to push the boundaries.
While Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, he stepped down from the company’s board in 2018. In the wake of OpenAI’s ChatGPT gaining global attention from both users and businesses, major tech entities like Microsoft and Alphabet’s Google are racing to introduce their AI-powered products.
