Elon Musk Launches Grokipedia: Elon Musk’s much-awaited Grokipedia was launched on Monday. He expects it to compete with the popular Wikipedia. Grokipedia is an online encyclopedia powered by his xAI systems, which is promoted as a “less biased” alternative to Wikipedia. At launch, Grokipedia listed about 885,000 AI-written articles, far fewer than Wikipedia’s English-language edition with millions of entries. Though it created a buzz online, various reports say that the site briefly crashed after going live. Later, it reappeared. It is to be noted that the contents are completely AI-generated with zero human input. However, according to various western media reports, the early reviews contained mistakes, including a claim about a U.S. political figure’s government advisory panel.
Grokipedia- Design and Features
The Grokipedia looks like Wikipedia. It’s English-only for now, updates super fast via AI, and plans to be open-source. However, currently, no info on sources is provided.
Wikipedia Found Factual Errors in Grokipedia developed Copies
Elon Musk’s Grokipedia was launched to compete with the Wikipedia Which claims no errors in their copies. However, as many errors were spotted in the copies which was released during the launch, criticism poured in. There were many factual errors also in the copies created by Grokipedia. Wikipediaco-founder Jimmy Wales told ‘The Post’ last week he expected “ a lot of errors,” while co-founder Larry Sanger posted examples of factual mistakes.
How Wikipedia Responded
Straight Arrow News(SAN), quoting CNBC, reported that Wikimedia Foundation spokesperson told that the group is assessing Grokipedia. The spokesperson reiterated that Wikipedia’s strength lies in its transparency and “human-created knowledge.” The Times reported that Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales is taking steps to reinforce a neutral point of view and study potential biases. It said that Wikipedia is facing rising AI scraping even as human visits declined this year.
What’s next
SAN also reported that Musk delayed Grokipedia’s debut by a week, saying he wanted to “purge out the propaganda” before release. The encyclopedia is linked to Musk’s Grok chatbot.
