The Apple iPhone has become the best-selling product among smartphones in the third quarter of 2025, the highest in the last five years in the country. This surge was driven by the festive season in India.
Despite Chinese companies Oppo and Vivo sold the maximum number of smartphone units, the iPhone grabbed the spotlight during the festive period.
According to data analytics firm IDC, Apple has sold over 50 lakh iPhones for the first time. The company also witnessed a tremendous increase in the average selling price.
IDC stated that there were several reasons behind the jump in sales during the festive season, including attractive prices, bumper discounts, and easy payment options. Consumers, however, showed little enthusiasm for cheaper Android smartphones priced between Rs 9,000 and Rs18,000, as well as entry-premium Android smartphones in the Rs 18,000–Rs 36,000 range.
According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Tracker data, the third quarter of 2025 recorded a 4.3% increase compared to the same quarter last year, with a total of 4.8 crore smartphone units sold.
IDC also said that the rise in sales was driven by the growing demand for premium smartphones, newly launched devices, and continued sales of last year’s models.
IDC reported that Apple is investing in expanding its production and market presence in India to increase its market share. The company’s global CEO, Tim Cook, cited this during the quarterly results. Apple had already surpassed major player Xiaomi in terms of market share and has now overtaken another Chinese brand, Realme. Apple has become the fourth-largest smartphone brand in India, after Vivo, Oppo, and Samsung.
