Cyber stalking is a crime committed when someone uses the internet and other technologies to harass or stalk another individual online. A Cyber Stalker makes use of internet and electronic means to monitor another person’s online activities. A Cyber Stalker track whereabouts of another person to harass, intimidate, embarrass, accuse, threaten, commit identity theft or malware attack.
The Cyber Stalker starts harassing another person anonymously using online means like email, social networks, instant messaging etc. They can intrude on privacy and can track physical location and cause harm to the other individual. These stalkers can take control of individual’s online accounts and can spread false rumors about you online.
Cyber stalking can not only be disturbing and stressful but it can also put individual in danger of being attacked by the stalker either online or offline.
How To Protect Yourself From Cyber Stalking?
The Government allows you to register the complaint if you are cyber stalked. You will be unnamed will registering the complaint. Follow the steps bellow to protect yourself from this type of stalking and register a complaint.
- Take a screenshot of suspected profile and URL.
- Keep its hard copy and soft copy along with you and then provide the proofs to the police.
- You can also register the complaint on the cyber crime portal online.
