China Unveils World’s Fastest Internet With 1.2 TBps, Can Transfer 150 High-Definition Films In One Second

China creates a world record of launching fastest internet network that can transmit data at 1.2 terabits per second which means it has the capacity of transferring 150 high definition films in just a second. The project is a collaboration between Tsinghua University, China Mobile, Huawei Technologies, and Cernet Corporation.

Notably most of the world’s internet networks operate at just 100 gigabits per second. But this internet network launched by Chinese companies has even surpassed The United States which has recently completed the transition to its fifth-generation Internet at 400 gigabits per second.

The superfast internet network connects Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou through an extensive optical fiber cabling system covering over 3000 kilometres.

Notably, the Beijing-Wuhan-Guangzhou connection is part of China’s Future Internet Technology Infrastructure, a decade-long initiative and the latest iteration of the national China Education and Research Network (Cernet).

The China’s superfast internet network Future Internet Technology Infrastructure (FITI project) that was activated in July was officially launched on Monday. Reportedly, the network surpassed all operational tests and performed reliably.

According to FITI project leader Wu Jianping from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the superfast line is ”not only a successful operation”, but also gives China the ”advanced technology to build an even faster internet”.

All of the system’s software and hardware has been domestically produced.
