Here is all you need to know about OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o:
ChatGPT-4o, OpenAI’s latest modified version of the ChatGPT-4 model that powers its flagship ChatGPT product, has been one of the most discussed topics among tech enthusiasts ever since its launch on Monday. The revamped model “is much faster” and improves “capabilities across audio, text, and vision,” said OpenAI CTO Mira Murati during the livestream announcement on Monday. So, let’s find out what the new ChatGPT-4o version has in store for free and paying users:
What is ChatGPT-4o?
The GPT-4o has the capability to analyse text, vision and audio in real-time and it is available to anyone who has an OpenAI API account. OpenAI intends to make it freely available to all users.
With support for JSON mode and function calls, the GPT-4o can be used in Assistants API, Chat Completions API, or Batch API.
Is ChatGPT-4o free?
Murati said that the ChatGPT-4o will be free for all users. However, the paying users will get an edge over free users as they will have up to five times higher capacity limits.
It means that there is no need for a special subscription to get started. However, remember that free users are rate-limited and get fewer prompts per hour. So, be mindful when asking your questions to the chatbot, or you will quickly run out of prompts.
In addition to limited access to GPT-4o, non-paying users received a major update to their entire user experience with several features that were previously reserved only for paying customers. The GPT Store, where anyone can publish a version of ChatGPT with custom instructions, is now generally available. Free users can also take advantage of ChatGPT’s web browsing tool and storage capabilities and upload photos and files for the chatbot to analyze.
ChatGPT-4o: What’s new for free users?
Apart from limited access to GPT-4o, free users also got a major upgrade that includes several features that were previously missing and were only available to paying customers. The GPT Store, which allows anyone to publish a version of ChatGPT with the help of custom instructions, is now available generally. Moreover, free users can now enjoy storage capabilities and web-browsing tools. Moreover, they get the advantage of uploading pictures and files that GPT-4o will analyse for them.
How to access ChatGPT-4o in the API?
GPT-4o will initially be available in ChatGPT and API as a text and vision model, OpenAI says. Specifically, it will be available in ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Team, as well as the Chat Completions API, Assistants API, and Batch API.
According to OpenAI, initially, the GPT-4o will be available in ChatGPT and API as a vision and text model. Free users will be automatically taken to GPT-4o and based on the usage and demand, the messaging restrictions will change. In instances where GPT-4o is not available, the free users will by default use GPT-3.5.
However, there will be limits for free users on advanced communication features including discovering and utilising GPTs, browsing, vision capabilities, file uploads, and data analysis.
How to upgrade to Plus?
ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers can get access to GPT-4 and GPT-4o on chatgpt.com itself but with the usage cap will be higher. If you are a free user, you can upgrade to Plus anytime by clicking on ChatGPT. You can access the GPT-4, GPT-4 Turbo, and GPT-4o models using the OpenAI API after making a payment of $5 or more (use tier 1).
