Apple iPhone 17, Pro Max, Pro, Air Launch Date: Apple is gearing up for its “Awe Dropping” event, scheduled to take place at Apple Park, Cupertino, on September 9, 2025 – the day when the tech giant will launch the much-anticipated iPhone 17 series globally. India, a key market for Apple, will be among the first to get the new lineup, with pre-orders opening on September 12 and sales starting on September 19, 2025.
The new lineup comprises iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple is also likely to unveil the iPhone 17 Air, touted as the thinnest and most portable iPhone ever, which may replace the iPhone 16 Plus.
While pricing will catch most attention, the iPhone 17 series is also set to bring several advancements in design, performance, and manufacturing. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature major upgrades in both camera and speed, while the iPhone 17 Air is designed to impress with its slim, lightweight profile. Amid rising excitement, here’s what to expect from the iPhone 17 series ahead of its launch:
iPhone 17 series: Expected Design
The iPhone 17 series is expected to see its most striking changes in exterior design, particularly for the Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumoured to replace the titanium build with a fresh aluminium-and-glass construction. Leaks also point to a large rectangular camera bar on the back, replacing the traditional square bump.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to be just 5.5 mm thick, making it the slimmest iPhone yet. The standard iPhone 17, however, is expected to look almost identical to the iPhone 16.
iPhone 17 Series: Expected Performance Upgrades
All iPhone 17 models are expected to bring major performance improvements. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are expected to use Apple’s latest A19 chip, while the Pro variants could be equipped with the higher-end A19 Pro. Both Pro models are said to include 12GB of RAM, allowing smoother multitasking and potentially more advanced Apple Intelligence features. Rumours suggest that Siri may integrate Gemini in the future, which means the iPhone will require more RAM than ever. All models are expected to launch with iOS 26.
iPhone 17 series: Expected Camera Upgrades
The cameras are tipped for some of the biggest upgrades in the iPhone 17 lineup. All four models are expected to include a 24MP front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of the current 12MP sensor. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could debut a triple 48MP setup, complete with a new periscope telephoto lens offering up to 8x optical zoom. If true, this would make it the first iPhone to feature three 48MP sensors – covering the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses.
iPhone 17 series: Expected Price In India
In India, the base model of the iPhone 17 is expected to start at around Rs 89,999, thanks to local manufacturing. However, the price could rise if Apple decides to make 256GB storage the default option.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to come with a price tag of Rs 99,990, while the Pro model is expected to be priced at around Rs 1,34,990. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to cost around Rs 164,999 in India.
iPhone 17 Production in India
In a significant move, all four iPhone 17 models are now being manufactured in India, as part of Apple’s production strategy. The phones are being produced at Tata’s Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu and Foxconn’s Bengaluru facility, making India a key hub for the global iPhone supply chain.
The iPhone 17 lineup will ship with iOS 26, featuring next-gen AI capabilities, advanced computational photography upgrades, and deeper Siri integration.
