The day tech enthusiasts around the world have been eagerly waiting for is finally here. As anticipation reaches a fever pitch, Apple has officially launched its complete iPhone 17 lineup, along with a slew of new smartwatches and AirPods.
While Apple had kept all its product launches tightly under wraps, a few leaks ahead of the event gave us an idea of what was on the horizon.
Renowned tech journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has already stated that the upcoming iPhone Air might not be a suitable purchase for many. Its ultra-thin form factor currently limits the phone’s ability to perform on par with the other flagship models in the range. Would the phone’s performance prove him wrong, since Apple has showcased a variety of new innovations that have gone into the new iPhone Air? The phones will be up for order from Friday and will be available from September 19.

Apple is set to equip its earbuds with a heart-rate monitor, allowing users to track calories burned and other workout metrics without needing a smartwatch.
This move could draw more users into Apple’s health and fitness ecosystem, potentially encouraging upgrades to higher-end devices like the Apple Watch. The earbuds will also feature a better ear fit and a redesigned charging case. Notably, Apple introduced heart-rate tracking earlier this year with its Powerbeats Pro earbuds.
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June suggested that the company doesn't have major AI developments planned for the immediate future. The event showcased only modest updates, such as translation tools that have long existed on Google and tighter integration with ChatGPT and Anthropic services.
More substantial AI advancements are expected next spring, when Apple is set to debut a long-awaited upgrade to Siri. The revamped voice assistant will be capable of handling more complex queries by drawing from web content, what's displayed on-screen, and the user's personal data.
As revealed by a possible packed unit, the new thin iPhone might just be called the iPhone Air.
For consumers seeking better camera performance and longer battery life, Apple is set to launch the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. These premium models will retain their familiar screen sizes of approximately 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, but will feature entirely revamped camera systems.
Apple has been experimenting with several enhancements, including significant improvements to video recording, a variable aperture system for greater control over depth of field, enhanced zoom precision, and a new feature that enables simultaneous video capture from both the front and rear cameras.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to be 8.725mm thick, slightly thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which measures 8.25mm. This roughly 5% increase in thickness may go unnoticed by most users but could make room for a larger battery and new camera features, such as an adjustable aperture. Source- Mac Rumours

Analyzing the prospects of the upcoming launches, Mark Gurman said - Apple’s new “Air” might not be the perfect choice for many potential buyers. Gurman compares the launch of the iPhone Air to the 2008 debut of the MacBook Air, which was, at the time, one of the thinnest and lightest laptops ever created.
While the new iPhone Air will carry similar traits-ultra-thin form factor and lightweight design-Gurman believes the device will have some serious compromises, such as shorter battery life and a single rear camera, especially at a time when much cheaper smartphones come equipped with 7,000 MAh batteries.
He also points out that, price-wise, the iPhone Air will be sandwiched between two far superior models: more expensive than the entry-level iPhone 17, and only a few hundred dollars cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro. In terms of specifications and everyday use, the Air could fall short compared to both.
