New message traceability guidelines of TRAI will have significant impact on the existing telecom providers such as JIO, VI, BSNL,AIRTEL. This new measure is expected to enhance message traceability and reduce the cases of cyber fraud. TRAI gave a deadline of 30th November to all telecom operators.
TRAI: New Directive
This move was initially announced in august, these guidelines requires the telecom operators to monitor the origin of all commercial messages. Blocking all the fraudulent messages from various international numbers which cannot be traced. According to the guideline, all telecom operators will track the messages all the way from sender to the receiver. These include messages from financial institutions, banks, and e-commerce businesses.
When it was announced in August, telecom companies were given a deadline of 31 October to implement all the measures. However, the operators requested more time for the compliance. TRAI extended the deadline to 30 November, giving more time to ensure proper compliance. As this rule will came into effect, users will see a delay in receiving their messages from financial institutions, banks, and e-commerce businesses. These short inconvenience will help to create secure digital ecosystem and reduce the cases of cyber fraud.
With the rise of smartphone and technology, there’s a significant rise in number of cyber frauds and fishing cases. Taking into account, TRAI announced these guidelines, which may result in reduction in cyber frauds. In the forthcoming year, TRAI is all set to announce a new set of guidelines on Expediting 5G infrastructure. These updates will include Standardised Right of Way guidelines, which will simply the process of setting up the infrastructure.
