The fast bowler Akash Deep has begun his Test career on a flying note, and former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan believes Mohammed Shami might be the ideal role model for him, considering they share a rather similar approach towards bowling-the very basics.
In this regard, Khan said, “Akash Deep wants to keep things simple and hit at the stumps, quite like Mohammed Shami. For the career in international cricket, that has been a very good example for him to follow if he is looking at things for the long term.”

Young Akash Deep, who is 27 years of age, has acquitted himself well, notably taking two critical wickets on the very first day of the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, besides accumulating a total of 2 for 34 from 10 overs. He had also made a memorable debut against England at Ranchi earlier this year and picked up three in the first innings.
Zaheer Khan said, "Shami can be a good role model for Akash Deep. Look at the way Shami has achieved success in international cricket. Like Shami, Akash Deep also likes to make good use of the seam". (Cricbuzz). pic.twitter.com/wtNbXR9lir

Zaheer Impressed With His Seam Position
In the praise for Deep, Khan mentioned the consistent seam position and hailing adherence to the basics, suggesting that what seems to be Shami’s success can be really helpful for Deep, and that also would be beneficial for him if he deals with other bowlers because that would help him increase his multifaceted skills more rapidly.
“Attacking the stumps and holding good lengths will surely help him grow, Khan added. If Akash Deep is looking for inspiration, Mohammed Shami is the best bet. While he has a good base, having conversations with fellow bowlers may make his variation more apparent sooner rather than later.“
