The Mumbai City FC registered a disappointing loss at the hands of Punjab FC during the Indian Super League 2024-25 match at their home ground. The former ISL champions were defeated by a one sided margin of 3-0 which also ended their nine-match winning streak in the tournament. The loss wasn’t liked by the spectators sitting in the crowd and they sort of express their unhappiness. This was noticed by Mumbai City FC midfielder Yoell van Nieff. The Dutch footballer engaged in an animated chat with the spectators after he noticed them unhappy.

Yoell van Nieff approached the fans after the disheartening loss and had a passionate chat with them. van Nieff express his pleasure for the support of the fans and also asked them whether they only support the team in their wins. The Dutch footballer tried to bring down their anger and urged them to stay by the team even during their losses. He said, “You only support us when we are winning?. We need you not only when we are winning, but also when we are losing. We really appreciate you. And we need your support. We’re disappointed. You guys are disappointed. This is normal. This is how life is. This is how football is. We are in this together.”

The Mumbai City FC were in brilliant competition during the first half of the ISL 2024-25 match against Punjab FC. However, Ezequiel Vidal scored a goal in the extra time ahead of the first half. From here, Mumbai City never came back into match and Punjab FC footballers Luka Majcen and Mushaga Makenga ended scoring two goals in the 53rd and 84th minute, which helped the visitors achieve a 3-0 win at the Mumbai Football Arena.
