Mumbai Manage To Post 179/9
Opting to bat first, the MI openers couldn’t provide a solid start as both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were dismissed early, managing just 6 runs collectively. Trent Boult claimed Rohit Sharma’s wicket in the opening over, while Ishan Kishan fell for a duck in the subsequent over bowled by Sandeep Sharma.
However, Tilak Varma’s determined fifty helped Mumbai achieve a respectable total, especially when other batsmen were struggling to generate momentum.
Nehal Wadhera’s quick 49 off 23 balls also contributed significantly to Mumbai’s innings, forming a crucial 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Tilak Varma. Their partnership unexpectedly propelled Mumbai to a decent total of 179/9 by the end of their 20 overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal made history in his first over by becoming the first Indian cricketer to claim 200 wickets in the IPL.
Sandeep Sharma marked his return with a five-wicket haul, while Trent Boult also chipped in with two wickets. Despite the middle-order partnership between Tilak and Nehal, Mumbai failed to capitalize on the momentum. With Sandeep Sharma bolstering their bowling attack, Rajasthan appears to be a strong contender for this year’s title as well.
Jaiswal Scores 2nd IPL Century
In reply, Rajasthan Royals started fearlessly on the night as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler ran riot on MI bowlers. While Jos Buttler had to depart on 35 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to form for the hosts and scored a spirited XX for RR.
Skipper Samson also joined Yashasvi Jaiswal to get Rajasthan the win as soon as possible to boost their net run rate. Despite the game being interrupted shortly by rain, both batters continued strongly.
Sanju Samson’s knock along with Jaiswal’s spectacular ton saw RR cruise to a 9-wicket victory in the end.
