Jaiswal and Rahul Dominate

Opening the innings was an exquisite drive that Jaiswal made through the mid-off of Woakes. With Tongue and Carse, Rahul delivered some classy strokes through the covers. In the first session, there were 16 boundaries. Moments of doubt were there, Jaiswal missed some, and Rahul carved one past the slips, but these were errors on a small scale. This is a special century for Jaiswal since he had labored during the practice matches against the England Lions, and most of the time he had been bowled out by a ball outside the off-stump. However, he was very patient in this game and dealt with those tough deliveries comfortably.

Batter-Friendly Pitch

The England skipper Ben Stokes decided to bowl first and this is probably attributed to the nature of the Headingley pitch that has been batting-friendly in recent times. The bowlers received a little swing and movement but the Indian openers appeared rather comfortable during the sunny conditions.

England in Trouble Without Anderson and Broad

The English bowling lineup was without James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Stokes, Carse, Tongue, and Woakes, the bowlers, did not pose a threat to the Indian batters. They also overdelivered full-length balls, which gave Jaiswal and Rahul the room to hit their favoured drives or bowl around the pads.
