WWE has clearly signaled that they are through with John Cena’s saga after his poignant retirement. December 13, 2025, will be etched in the annals of wrestling history as one of the days on which The Last Real Champion fought in his last match. The event was not only historic by itself but also controversial due to the manner in which it ended, thus, it will be remembered that way too.
WWE begins transition after John Cena’s final match
Now that everything has calmed down, World Wrestling Entertainment has begun to show that the organization is already eyeing the future. The main page of their website to the very last match of the Cenation Leader had a big banner and the information about his appearances or matches was constantly updated on it.
WWE has now taken down the retirement match banner from its “Superstars” section and has replaced it with a new one displaying famous faces from both RAW and SmackDown. @EliteClubS0B via X/Twitter announced the same news.

Why Cena’s final match was meant to put others over
Even though this action can be seen as a let-down for some supporters, it’s basically a decision from WWE to respect The Never Seen Seventeen’s wish of the last run: to raise the level of young stars. John Cena was questioned on the latest episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes about the controversial ending of his last match, in the Chain Gang Soldier tap out with a grin on his face when Gunther placed him in a sleeper hold.
Cena reflects on his final in-ring goodbye
Cena put it that the action was more of his acceptance of the situation than his surrender, claiming it was a kind of indication of him having his last breath. He likened it to a person clinging to their last breath until they had said goodbye to all their loved ones.
The Cenation Leader recounted that his last day as an active in-ring performer was full of significant conversations, and he was convinced that the Stamford-based promotion was left in good hands.
