Is WWE lining up AJ Styles vs Gunther for a career-defining match?

WWE appears to have dropped hints regarding Gunther's upcoming rival. During the post Saturday Night's Main Event RAW broadcast, the audience witnessed Gunther asserting himself as the winner of the match with John Cena. He ridiculed the fans in his speech and the stars behind the scenes, claiming he had made Cena “tap like a little bi**h.”

Once the RAW GM expelled him from the venue, he was spotted and had a short conversation with AJ Styles. He made the "You Can’t See Me" sign and then left the building in his vehicle. Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio thinks that this part was there not simply for the sake of fun on Monday Night RAW.

Meltzer suggests WrestleMania clash could be in the making

On the other hand, it was a bait that WWE possibly constructing a conflict between AJ Styles and The Ring General. Moreover, Meltzer foreseen that their magnificent duel could happen at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas next year.

"He smiled and he met with AJ. And, you know, you can kind of see AJ and Gunther being a match that they’re going to do. I don’t know if it’s going to be at Mania, which is kind of weird, you know, in a sense I’d go like, well, AJ hasn’t been pushed that hard, why should he be with Gunther?

But at the same time, you know, they’re trying to duplicate the thing with the AJ retirement, you know, coming up this year. So maybe that’s the beginning of the… you know, I mean, it makes sense for Gunther to face and beat AJ as well."

Meltzer hints Gunther could play a role in AJ Styles’ retirement story

According to Meltzer, AJ Styles' active wrestling career will end in 2026. He also added that there is a possibility that Triple H might plan for Gunther to take AJ Styles' retirement next.

"They probably figured that like, you know, have this guy be the guy who ruins every retirement party for super heat."
