Jasprit Bumrah-led team India registered win by 295 runs on Monday in the first Test of the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. With the emphatic victory, Team India has climbed to the top in the standings for the World Test Championship (2023-2025). The sensational win has now increased India’s chances of qualification to the WTC final.
Status of teams in the standing for World Test Championship
With nine wins, five losses and one draw in 15 matches, Team India has reached the top spot in the standings. Meanwhile, Australia has dropped from the top spot to the second position. Team Australia has played 13 Test matches, winning eight, losing four and drawing one.
Sri Lanka holds the third spot in the standings with five wins and four losses in nine matches. The fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions are held by New Zealand, South Africa, England and Pakistan. Meanwhile, Bangladesh and West Indies are the bottom two teams in the standings.

India’s sensational victory in Perth Test
Team India bulldozed Australia by 295 runs in the Perth Test. Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah led from the front and took eight wickets in the match. Bumrah registered a fifer in Australia’s first innings as he dismissed Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney,Steven Smith, Alex Carey and Pat Cummins. The right-arm fast bowler was adjudged Player of the Match for his incredible performance.
In batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal (161 off 297 balls) and Virat Kohli (100 off 143 balls) were the main architects of India’s massive lead in the second innings. KL Rahul (77 off 176 balls) and Nitish Reddy (38 off 27 balls) made notable contributions as India finished at 487/6 in its second innings. After adding the 46-run lead from the first innings, Team India gave the hosts a target of 534 runs.
Chasing the mammoth target, Australia were bowled out for 238 runs in 58.4 overs. Travis Head was the top scorer for the hosts in the 4th innings, getting 89 off 101 balls. Only five Aussie batters could reach the double figure mark amid a dominating display by the Indian bowlers. In Australia’s 2nd innings, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj picked three wickets each, Washington Sundar scalped two wickets, Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy took one wicket each.
