WTC Points Table 2025-27: Team India’s troubles in the longest format deepened after a stunning 30-run defeat to South Africa in the first Test at Eden Gardens. Chasing a modest 124, India folded for just 93, handing the visitors a memorable win and leaving Rohit Sharma’s side with plenty to rethink heading into the second Test. Beyond the loss itself, the bigger blow came on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
India Drop to Fourth in WTC Standings
Before the series began, India were sitting comfortably at No. 3 in the WTC 2025–27 standings. But the setback in Kolkata has pushed them down to fourth.
So far, India have played eight matches in this cycle winning four, losing three and drawing one giving them a points percentage of 54.17%. With tougher assignments ahead, the dip couldn’t have come at a worse time.

South Africa Jump to Second
South Africa, meanwhile, made a huge leap. Their gritty win at Eden Gardens propelled them from fourth to second place in the WTC table. They’ve now played three matches in this WTC cycle, winning two and losing one, with a strong points percentage of 66.67%.
Sri Lanka, who held second place earlier, have slipped down to third, also with 66.67%, but behind South Africa on other metrics.
Australia Remain Unchallenged at the Top
As for the top spot, there’s no surprise Australia continue to dominate. The reigning world champions have won all three of their matches so far, giving them a perfect 100% points percentage.
Further down the table, Pakistan sit fifth at 50%, England sixth at 43.33%, followed by Bangladesh and West Indies. New Zealand, surprisingly, remain at the bottom simply because they haven’t played a single match yet in this cycle.
India will now hope to bounce back in the second Test, not just to level the series, but to keep their WTC campaign from slipping into dangerous territory.
