India won the toss in the final match and chose to bowl first. In the first innings, Australia scored 469 runs. Following this, the Indian squad was dismissed for 296 runs. Australia declared the innings after reaching 270 runs and set a goal of 444 runs to win.

Team India had scored 164 runs before the close of the fourth day’s play, losing three wickets, but on the fifth day, the Indian squad looked like scattered cards. In the second innings, Team India scored only 234 runs. Australia became the World Test Champion by winning this match by 209 runs.
