Gujarat Giants have retained Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner for Rs 3.5 crore, while fellow Aussie Beth Mooney has been retained for Rs 2.5 crore.
WPL 2026 Retention Live Updates: With the WPL 2026 mega-auction scheduled for the final week of November, all five franchises have been asked by the BCCI to submit their list of retained players by November 5. Fans can expect live updates as teams reveal their retained stars along with the respective retention prices.
Each team is allowed to retain a maximum of five players, including up to three Indian players and two overseas internationals. The retention price structure is as follows:
- Player 1: Rs 3.5 crore
- Player 2: Rs 2.5 crore
- Player 3: Rs 1.75 crore
- Player 4: Rs 1 crore
- Player 5: Rs 50 lakh
Franchises that choose to retain fewer than five players will receive Right to Match (RTM) cards to use during the auction. For instance, if Royal Challengers Bengaluru decide to retain only two players, they will be granted three RTM cards to bring back their preferred stars in the auction.
This retention strategy gives teams the flexibility to balance their squad, secure key players, and plan wisely for the upcoming mega-auction.

All eyes are on Delhi Capitals as they decide the fate of Meg Lanning ahead of WPL 2026. The Australian star has been a key figure in their lineup, but with retention limits and strategic planning in mind, the Capitals will have to make a tough call on whether to retain or release their marquee player.
UP Warriorz have some big decisions to make ahead of the WPL 2026 retention window. Captain Alyssa Healy is almost certain to be retained, but question marks remain over other key players such as Sophie Ecclestone, the world’s No.1 T20I bowler, and Chinelle Henry, who hit the joint-fastest fifty in last season’s WPL.
Not to forget Kiran Navgire, fresh from the fastest Women’s T20 century - plenty of tough calls lie ahead for the Warriorz management.
Probable Retentions:
Alyssa Healy
Chinelle Henry / Grace Harris / Tahlia McGrath
Deepti Sharma
Sophie Ecclestone
Shweta Sehrawat
Gujarat Giants face some tough decisions ahead of the WPL 2026 retention window. Key players like Beth Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt, and Ashleigh Gardner are central to their lineup, while last year’s signing Deandra Dottin adds even more firepower.
The franchise’s management will have to make some difficult calls to shape their squad for the upcoming season. Potential players in contention for retention include:
Phoebe Litchfield
Ashleigh Gardner
Kashvee Gautam
Deandra Dottin
Simran Shaikh
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to promote Malolan Rangarajan, the franchise’s long-serving assistant and strategy coach, to the position of head coach ahead of WPL 2026.
Rangarajan, part of the RCB setup since 2020, has played a key role in nurturing domestic talent and shaping the team’s tactical strategies over the years.
Meanwhile, Luke Williams, who led RCB to their first WPL title earlier this year, has stepped down from his role as head coach.
For starters, all five teams in the WPL must be ready with their respective lists by November 5. And since it will be a mega auction this time around, a maximum of five players can be retained by each franchise. In that too, either the players can be retained directly, or by exercising the right to match card (RTM).

Mumbai Indians have announced former Australia opener and two-time World Cup winner Lisa Keightley as their new head coach for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.
Keightley takes over from Charlotte Edwards, who led MI to championship titles in 2023 and 2025 before being appointed as England’s head coach.
A stylish batter in her playing days, Keightley represented Australia in 9 Tests, 82 ODIs, and one T20I, and was part of the 1997 and 2005 World Cup-winning squads.
Maximum player retention
Each team will be allowed to retain a maximum of five players ahead of the auction.
Within this limit, franchises can keep up to three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indians.
However, if a team opts to retain all five, at least one must be an uncapped Indian.
What’s the team purse for WPL 2026?
The purse for each team in the Women’s Premier League 2026 is set at Rs 15 crore.
Player Retention Slab
Player 1 - Rs 3.5 crore
Player 2 - Rs 2.5 crore

For teams that retain five players, the RTM card won’t be available with Rs 9.25 crore deducted from the purse.
Former England fast bowler Anya Shrubsole has been named as the bowling coach for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.
A two-time World Cup winner and one of England’s most celebrated bowlers, Shrubsole retired from international cricket in 2022, finishing her career with 227 wickets across all formats.
She is perhaps best remembered for her remarkable 6 for 46 in the 2017 World Cup final at Lord’s, a spell that helped England secure a famous victory over India - a performance that remains iconic in women’s cricket history.
