New Delhi: The inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL), featuring five teams, will begin on Saturday, March 4. History will be made when Gujarat Giants face off with Mumbai Indians at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Five teams to take part

The five teams that will participate in the inaugural WPL are Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gujarat Giants (GG), UP Warriorz (UPW) and Delhi Capitals (DC).

WPL captains

All the teams have announced their captain for the maiden tournament. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been named the Mumbai Indians’ captain. RCB will be led by dashing left-hand batter Smriti Mandhana. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz announced Australia wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy as their captain.

Australia’s successful skipper Meg Lanning will have the command of the Delhi Capitals while Beth Mooney has been named as the captain for Gujarat Giants.
