New Delhi: The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will begin on Saturday (March 4). Among the five teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and UP Warriorz were the first ones to introduce their skippers.
WPL captains
Indian star batter Smriti Mandhana will lead RCB while Australia’s Alyssa Healy has been chosen as the captain of UP Warriorz.
Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians have also announced their captains for the maiden WPL; Beth Mooney and Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the respective sides.
Delhi Capitals was the last team to announce the team leader. Meg Lanning, who led Australia to the T20 World Cup glory will lead Delhi Capitals.
- Smriti Mandhana – RCB: The most expensive player in the women’s auction, Mandhana will lead RCB in the WPL 2023. The left-hand batter is also the vice-captain of the Indian team. RCB have a strong team with Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Heather Knight, and Renuka Thakur in the mix.

2. Alyssa Healy – UP Warriorz: Australian wicket-keeper batter will lead UP Warrioz. The right-hand batter owns vast captaincy experience while leading New South Wales.

3. Harmanpreet Kaur – MI: India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is set to lead Mumbai Indians. Kaur has a proven track record as captain by leading India in 96 T20I matches. Nat Sciver is likely to be deputy for Kaur.

4. Meg Lanning – DC: Meg Lanning is the most successful captain in the shortest format of the game. The 29-year-old created history on February 26 by winning five ICC titles. Lanning is a gun leader and has experience leading Australia for nine years.

5. Beth Mooney – GG: The Gujarat Giants have two options for leaders in Sneh Rana and Ash Gardner. However, in a surprise move, the GG named Beth Mooney as the captain of the side. Sneh Rana will be the deputy.
