New Delhi: What a start for the Women’s Premier League, Mumbai Indians (MI) dominated both the innings, with the bat as well as with the bowl on Saturday at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Saika Ishaque bagged four wickets for MI and Harmanpreet Kaur played the captain’s knock as Gujarat Giants (GG) were folded for 64/9.

Harmanpreet-led Mumbai Indians posted the mammoth target of 207 for 5 wickets in 20 overs against Beth Mooney’s side. Gujarat Giants faced the early set-back in the match as captain Beth Mooney was declared retired hurt early in the second innings.
Dayalan Hemalatha: Lone warrior
In the first match of WPL, Gujarat’s suffered a humiliating defeat, no batter could breach double figures in the batting order. Dayalan Hemalatha was the top scorer for the Giants, as the MI bowlers ran riot against the hapless lineup.

Earlier in the game, while MI did lose an early wicket of Yastika Bhatia, Hayley Matthews (47) produced a quickfire display of batting, smashing three fours and four sixes before returning back to the pavilion.

But after that, Harmanpreet displayed great batting skills as she smashed 14 fours on the way to her 65 off just 30 deliveries.
Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, struggled against the MI bowling line-up as no batter could touch the double figure except Dayalan Hemalatha. The 28-year-old batter, scored 29 runs, topping the chart for Gujarat Giants.
