New Delhi: UP Warriorz will play their first match of the season against the Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai today. In their first match, UP Warriorz will be hoping for the best start to the tournament.
Gujarat Giants will look to bounce back
Gujarat Giants faced a humiliating defeat in the last match against Mumbai Indians on Saturdays at the same venue.
After Mumbai rode on captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 30-ball 65 and Amelia Kerr’s unbeaten 45 off 24 balls to post a mammoth score of 207/5 in their 20 overs, the Giants’ batters had an off day as they could only manage 64/9 in 15.1 overs.
Gujarat Giants will have another point to worry about as captain Beth Mooney is unlikely to be fit for today’s match. In her absence, vice-captain Sneh Rana will lead the side.
On the other hand, UP Warriorz is led by Australia’s opening batter Alyssa Healy, who will have a reliable Indian in the form of Deepti Sharma as her deputy in the first season of the WPL.
