New Delhi: As preparations continue for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, New Zealand have called up two dynamic and fast bowlers for the upcoming white ball series against England.
Key bowlers returns to New Zealand’s squad
Experienced left-hander Trent Boult and compatriot Kyle Jamieson will return to the New Zealand squad ahead of the World Cup as the Black Caps take on the 2019 champions in a five-match series in a vital warm-up ahead of this year’s games.
All-rounder Michael Bracewell has been sidelined after recovering from an Achilles injury, while Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham remain in New Zealand awaiting the birth of their first child. Tom Latham will remain ODI captain in the absence of the injured Kane Williamson, and the experienced right-hander will join his team-mates in England to continue his rehab from a knee injury sustained earlier this year.
New Zealand’s WC preparation
The ODI series in England will be New Zealand’s penultimate pre-World Cup tournament. The team will also face Bangladesh in September, but manager Gary Stead believes facing the reigning world champions will be a tough test for his side.
“England have been an impressive side on the white ball for some time now and we are delighted to be playing England at home on the eve of the World Cup,” he said.
“We’ve had some great games against them and I’m sure these four games will bring the usual drama and excitement,” Stead added.
“We know this is going to be a really competitive series and the group is looking forward to playing with teams like Oval and Rose again,” he concluded.
New Zealand have also named a T20I squad for three matches against the UAE later this month and four matches in England before the ODIs.
Tim Southee is the captain of the team during these matches.
