New Delhi: West Indies captain Hayley Matthews chose to bat first after winning the toss at the Women’s T20 World Cup. Skipper Matthews Hayley who opened the innings with right-hand batter Stafanie Taylor but got out and returned to pavallion.
First ball, first wicket for Pooja Vastrakar
Indian all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar struck early and gave India their first breakthrough. She sent back West Indies captain Hayley Matthews. It was a back of a length delivery by Vistrakar and Matthews edged it to the keeper. The West Indies skipper was caught by Rich Gosh.

West Indies poor performance record
West Indies on the other hand, has faced the defeat from the England Women. This is West Indies 14 lost in a row. The captain is no stranger to delivering on the big games. However, the skipper needs the others to perform, especially the experienced Stefanie Taylor, who has returned from a back injury.

“We are gonna have a bat. Last game didn’t go too badly. We have one change. We had the tri-series. India are a strong side. We would look to get better of them by playing our brand of cricket,” says Windies skipper Hayley after winning the toss.
“We wanted to bat today. Last game we chased. Today, the wicket is looking a little better compared to the last game. We wanted to bat first. Smriti and Devika are back. We know them. We played a couple of games before the tournament,” Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said.
