New Delhi: Pakistan captain Bimsah Maroof has opted to bat first against India at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town after winning the toss.
However, the Indian women’s team will miss opener batter Smriti Mandhana’s service due to her finger injury in the warm-up match against Australia last week.
Harleen Deol to replace Smriti Mandhana
Harleen Deol has replaced Mandhana in the high-voltage tournament opener. India’s batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar informed the press a day before the game, that Mandhana has been ruled out but will be available from the second match.
“Smriti has a finger injury and is still (in) recovery, so she won’t play most likely. It’s not a fracture and we’re hopeful she will be available from the second game onwards,” stand-in coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar had said during a press conference.

Captains word after the toss
“We’d like to bat first. It is a dry wicket, won’t change much so we’d like to put up a total. It is unlucky she is not here with us, but this is an opportunity for someone else to perform. We have the confidence because we won against India last time but conditions are different here,” said Bismah after winning the toss.
“We wanted to bat because these wickets are a bit tricky. She will be fine but we have added an extra batter for today – Harleen in there, Shikha misses out. I think these wickets will help us, we are a very good bowling side,” Harmanpreet said after the toss.
Harmanpreet stats against Pakistan
Without Mandhana, Harmanpreet will have to anchor India’s innings against Pakistan. In 146 T20Is, she has registered 2,940 runs with a highscore of 103.
She has also smashed a ton and nine fifties. Meanwhile she bagged 32 wickets, including a four-wicket haul when she was at the pitch as a bowler.
