Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano has assured that Lionel Messi will be fit to feature in their Club World Cup Group A match against Porto on Thursday, amid fears after a training session. There were widespread online videos of Messi seemingly touching his left leg, which generated fears of an injury. But Mascherano brushed aside any concerns, ensuring reporters that the Argentine legend is perfectly fit and ready for the critical match in Atlanta.

Jordi Alba’s coach also provided a positive report on the seasoned left-back, declaring that he has recovered from injury and is in line to be picked after sitting out the goalless opener against Al Ahly. Ahead of facing Portuguese giants Porto a club with steady Champions League experience Mascherano reaffirmed the need to dominate possession. He acknowledged that Porto would present a significant challenge and stressed that maintaining the ball will be key to Inter Miami’s hopes of advancing in the tournament.

“On the trip from Miami to Atlanta I saw that came out in some places, but Leo is fit, he trained, he completed the whole session,” Mascherano told reporters. “He was touching his leg, sometimes people touch themselves, but there’s no problem, he’s fit and obviously he will play tomorrow.”

“We’ll evaluate what’s best for us, if he starts or not,” said the coach. “Actually, I already know but I won’t tell you.”

“We have players who feel much more comfortable when they’re in possession, dominating, and having control of the game through the ball,” said the Argentine.
