In a thrilling first ODI against England in Antigua, West Indies clinched an impressive 8-wicket victory, thanks in large part to Evin Lewis’s explosive 94 runs off 69 balls. Bowling Dominance: England Bowled Out For 209

Chasing Down A Revised Target

After a rain delay, West Indies faced a revised target of 157 runs in 35 overs. The team accomplished this in just 25.5 overs. Lewis quickly set the tone for the chase, hitting sixes off bowlers John Turner and Jofra Archer, and finishing the powerplay at 54/0 alongside Brandon King, who contributed 30 runs.

Rain Delays And Key Partnerships

Following a second rain interruption, which led to a revised target, Lewis resumed his aggressive batting, reaching a 46-ball fifty and ultimately hitting eight sixes. The opening partnership of 118 ended when King was dismissed, but Lewis continued to dominate until he fell just six runs short of a century.

England’s Batting Collapse

Earlier in the match, England’s top order started strong but failed to capitalize. Seales dismissed Phil Salt (18) and Will Jacks (19), while Forde took out Jordan Cox (17) and Jacob Bethell (27). A notable 72-run partnership between Liam Livingstone (48) and Sam Curran (37) momentarily steadied England’s innings.

However, after reaching 165/4, England suffered a dramatic collapse, adding only 44 more runs and failing to complete their allotted overs, getting bowled out in 45.1 overs. The fall began with Livingstone’s dismissal, followed by quick wickets from Motie, who also sent Curran packing.

Brief Scores: England 209 in 45.1 overs (Liam Livingstone 48, Sam Curran 37; Gudakesh Motie 4-41, Jayden Seales 2-22) lost to West Indies 157/2 in 25.5 overs (Evin Lewis 94, Brandon King 30; Liam Livingstone 1-32) by 8 wickets (DLS method).
