On Day 03 of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final, at the hallowed Lord s in London, star Australian batter Steve Smith sustained a finger injury during the fielding effort against South Africa, on Friday, June 13th.
In the second ball of the 20th over of the second innings of Proteas captain Temba Bavuma, Mitchell Starc bowled a short pitch which Bavuma hit thickly on the leading edge and it carried to the slip fielder, where Steve Smith was positioned. But sadly, the Australian star batter dropped the catch. It became worse when to take the catch, he hurt his fingers.

Sam Konstas Replaces Steve Smith
As said by ESPNcricinfo, Steve Smith could have dislocated his finger. But no official confirmation regarding the injury of Smith is present. The 36-year-old batter was later forced to leave the field in pain after he could not manage to continue playing. Aussie youngster Sam Konstas arrived as the subfielder and took the place of Steve Smith in the field.
