Ranji Trophy: Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Umar Nazir Mir put on a masterclass performance on Thursday, dismissing big names like Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube during the Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai. The 31-year-old bowled with pace and bounce, keeping Mumbai’s batters on edge and sending wickets tumbling regularly.
Mir first got Rohit for just 3 with a short-pitched delivery, then clean-bowled Rahane for 12. Dube followed, getting out for a duck after being caught by Kanhaiya Wadhawan. It was a standout display from Mir, an experienced player for Jammu and Kashmir in domestic cricket.
Since his debut in 2013, Mir has taken 138 wickets in 57 matches. He’s also claimed 54 wickets in List A and 32 in T20s. At 6-foot-4, the fast bowler from Pulwama was even named to India C’s squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.

The much-anticipated return of India captain Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal to domestic cricket didn’t go as planned. Both were dismissed cheaply in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. Rohit and Jaiswal were pairing up for the first time for defending champions Mumbai, but their returns to the domestic scene were far from ideal—Rohit was out for 3 and Jaiswal for just 4.
Jaiswal was pinned in front of the wicket by J&K’s right-arm pacer Auqib Nabi, who made the most of the fresh wicket and swung the new ball dangerously. Rohit’s dismissal was particularly disappointing—trying to force a shot on the on side, he ended up getting a leading edge, and J&K’s captain Paras Dogra caught him at mid-off. There was a bit of confusion, as Dogra was wearing the No. 9 jersey, typically worn by Yudhvir Singh.
Umar continued to make an impact, knocking out Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane for 12. While the crowd at the stadium was sparse, many workers in nearby office buildings who were watching the action from their windows quickly returned to their desks after Rohit’s dismissal.
