In a heartwarming story of resilience and passion, Rahul Soreng, the son of Pulwama martyr Shaheed Vijay Soreng, has been selected for the Haryana Under-19 cricket team. His journey has touched hearts across the country, including cricket legend Virender Sehwag, who congratulated the young cricketer with a proud and emotional message.
Rahul has been a student at the Sehwag International School since 2019, after Sehwag offered free education and boarding to children of Pulwama martyrs. Reflecting on Rahul’s growth and recent achievement, Sehwag shared on X (formerly Twitter):
“Congratulations to Rahul Soreng on being selected in the Under-19 Haryana team. Since his brave father attained martyrdom in Pulwama, it has been my privilege to support Rahul and I am extremely proud of his journey.”

A Rising Journey Through the Ranks
Rahul’s cricketing progress has been steady and impressive. He previously represented Haryana’s Under-14 and Under-16 teams, including a spot in the Vijay Merchant Trophy last December. Earlier this year, he was also picked for the Jhajjar District Under-19 team alongside Aditya Pandey and Shivam Anand for an interdistrict match against Karnal.
Sehwag, who has been actively supporting children of martyrs, earlier posted about Rahul and another student, Arpit Singh (son of Shaheed Ram Vakeel), both of whom are training at his school.
“Sons of Heroes! What a privilege to have these two at Sehwag School and contribute to their journey,” he wrote.
A Story Bigger Than Cricket
Rahul’s journey is more than just a sports story, it’s a powerful reminder of what determination, opportunity, and support can do. It also reflects how former athletes like Sehwag are using their platform to create real change, giving back to those who’ve sacrificed the most.
As Rahul continues to climb the ranks in domestic cricket, he carries not just his cricket gear but also the legacy of a hero and the hopes of a grateful nation cheering for him.
