Paris Olympics 2024: India’s top wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, announced her retirement after being heartbroken by her disqualification from the Paris Olympics. She was close to winning a gold medal in the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling event but was 100 grams over the weight limit during the morning weigh-in on Wednesday. Vinesh appealed her disqualification to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In a social media post, she said wrestling defeated her and broke her spirit. After Vinesh Phogat announced Retirement people are giving reactions on what has happened in the past 24 hours.

Bajrang Punia made a significant statement after Phogat announced her retirement. He tweeted, “Vinesh, you did not lose; you were defeated.” This comment is important following Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the 50 kg weight category in wrestling at the Paris Olympics. On Thursday morning, wrestler announced her retirement from wrestling. She shared her decision on Instagram, writing, “Maa, wrestling defeated me. I lost. I am sorry. Your dream, my courage, everything is broken. I don’t have any more strength. Goodbye, wrestling 2001-2024.”

Bajrang Punia shared Vinesh’s retirement post and wrote, “Vinesh, you haven’t lost; you have been defeated. You will always be a winner for us. You are not only India’s daughter but also India’s pride.”

CM Naib Singh Saini  has decided to welcome Vinesh Phogat

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini made a big announcement. He posted on Instagram, saying, “Our brave daughter of Haryana, Vinesh Phogat, reached the Olympic finals with a brilliant performance. She may not have played in the final for some reasons, but she is a champion to all of us.”

Nayab Singh Saini stated that the government has decided to welcome and honor Vinesh Phogat like a medalist. Vinesh will receive the same respect, rewards, and benefits that the Haryana government gives to Olympic silver medalists.
