In the WTC final ongoing between South Africa and Australia at the Lord`s, South Africa began day 3 in a good manner by taking an early wicket. However, Mitchell Starc shouldered the responsibility and scored valuable runs to the tally. The left-arm seamer has, however, hit an unbeaten 58, and South Africa need 282 runs to win. The 35-year-old has been basking in the glory of his performance, and it also took the fans back to the time when he played heroically with the bat against India in 2013, by hitting a splendid 99.

When Starc Shocked India With 99-Run Innings
During the 3rd Test match between India and Australia at Mohali in 2013, Australia got off to a good start and the openers added 139 runs for the first wicket. But a collapse was initiated by Indian bowlers and the visitors were bowled out on 251/7 when Starc walked in to bat in the first innings.
Indian fans were hoping that the team would finish the job early, but Starc shocked the hosts with his batting skills and made a magnificent 99 (144). Mitchell pursued his first century only to be bowled by Ishant Sharma, who got Starc to play a cover; however, he got an outside edge, and MS Dhoni completed the formalities. Starc played a composed knock, which had 14 boundaries. The lefty contributed to Baggy Greens by scoring 408 runs in the first innings. India later went on to win the Test by six wickets.
Starc Rates 99 vs India As Biggest Heartbreak
Just before the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Mitchell Starc was interviewed by his wife when he expressed that it would not be simple to forget his 99-run innings against India. In addition, his wife commented that she had switched on the TV to see the century by Starc, but the left-hander walked back to the pavilion shortly after she had switched on the live telecast.
